If you need to watch costs, but you really want satellite television, it's time to stick with the basics. Both DirecTV and Dish Network have basic plans, but the basic plan for Dish Network does cost less, at $19.99, than the basic plan from DirecTV, at $29.99. However, it has just over half the channels, so you do have to decide how much you need to get for your money.
The advantage continues for Dish Network if you have two or more televisions you wish to have satellite television installed on. Their prices continue to be lower, but once again, you do have to be careful about making sure you are getting the channels you want.
Take a look at my satellite television comparison page to start thinking about what each offers. Both companies provide free installation and equipment in most cases, although there may be an option to pay for upgraded equipment.
You should also be aware that although a free DVR or TiVo may be provided, there is an additional monthly charge to use them. DVRs are wonderfully convenient, far superior to VCRs, but the added monthly charge is something you need to be aware of before deciding to have one hooked up. Ask about annual or lifetime subscriptions and see if you can afford to handle it in one lump sum, as that will save money in the long run.
